HARROLD

The club controls three separate sections of river and a lake at Barnwell near Oundle.

Duchess Lake: Access to this is through a locked gate across the road from the Mill Restaurant. The lake has a good head of tench and carp, roach and rudd are also abundant, as with most lakes this venue fishes better in the summer months.

River Nene: Adjacent to the lake is the main river, known as the marina stretch (as the river feeds the marina on the opposite bank). Fishing is from the road bridge to the lock, a good venue with winter time being perhaps the most rewarding, for roach, bream, perch and the odd decent chub.

Barnwell Backbrook:
Access to both backbrooks is by foot only (see map for vehicle parking area) across the front of the Mill Restaurant. Fishing is available from inside the middle field only for both backwaters. Roach, perch and chub are the main quarry with fish to specimen size.

Plantation River Nene: Access is through Barnwell village on the Ashton road, via a concrete access road. A sluggish section of river with most coarse species present, this stretch is well sheltered and often produces some good bags of quality fish.

All waters at Barnwell are subject to the traditional close season (including the lake).

BARNWELL MAP

The fishing complex at Ringstead Island comprises 2 lakes; Barker's and Brightwell's, the main river Nene, a backwater and 2 pools, known as Mill Cotton     Fishery.

RINGSTEAD MAP

Barker's and Brightwell's both hold good tench, bream, roach and carp. There are no bait or method bans. The main river holds a variety of coarse species including some good sized pike, the roach fishing here can be very good in winter as well as summer. Bream can be found in the river section adjacent to Brightwell's lake, carp can show throughout the whole river length, and don't forget there are some big perch and eels to be had too!

DAVE HEED

The backbrook has some chub to 6lb as well as the more usual species and there are plenty of swims to choose from. When the river is up and coloured the lock cut can provide good sport. In all a complex to suit anglers of every type and ability.  The complex is open all year, but the river and backwaters are still subject to the traditional close season.

NIGHT FISHING is allowed on the river, backbrook, Barker’s and Brightwell’s Lakes only - but not on Mill Cotton Fishery.

The area is kept secure by a locked gate and members will require a key to gain access, these are available, for a small charge, from the outlets as detailed on the Where to Purchase Membership page.

Mill Cotton Fishery is our purpose-built ‘commercial type’ venue. Comprising 2 separate lakes, both with island features. These waters have been extensively stocked with a selection of coarse fish. The larger lake contains a variety of carp species and silver fish including barbel. The smaller lake is silver fish only. The fishery is open all year during daylight hours for the enjoyment of club members. A toilet is installed on site.

The rules for Mill Cotton are separate to any other club rules and are displayed at the site entrance.
